Just keep the base layer covered (you don't need the paint) and add another layer of paint to it. Then, add an outside layer of paint to the edges of the top coat of acrylic paint and press into the top of the rest of the acrylic layer. Let that hang for awhile, until you get it perfect and are satisfied with how it looks.

The finish on this set is matte for easier painting (because you will also want to leave more paint up in the center). It's not meant to look that black-ish white. There is also a red lip gloss for cooler looking finishes (just be sure to check if you want her matte gloss or not).
